Tech Tip 49: Removing the Blinking Cursor from FireFox

Posted on: January 11, 2010

Yesterday when I started to work on a Website I’m re-designing for Simba Lodges, I discovered that when I rendered my HTML scripts in Firefox, it would display a long annoying blinking cursor, positioned near the different elements of the page, especially before and after the images. I don’t know if this has ever happened to you but it can get frustrating if you don’t know what’s happening and you can’t figure out how to get rid of it!!

I tried opening my web page in different browsers and it would show well in Chrome and IE, but the cursor would still appear in Firefox. Then i Googled my problem! And I managed to solve the mystery of the blinking cursor!! lol…

Imagine I laughed when I saw the solution to this problem! I spent so much time thinking about what the problem was so when I read on how to solve the problem, I could’t believe how easy it was!

When that happens, you just have to press the F7 key on your keyboard, and the annoying blinking cursor will vanish!!!

Basically, Firefox has different browsing modes and F7 toggles the caret browsing mode on and off. So the blinking cursor indicates caret browsing is turned on.

I hope this post has stopped you from pulling all your hair out if this happened to you and you thought your browser has gone coocoos!! 😉

Have a great week ahead!!!
